South Africa's Electric Car

I sincerely hope that this makes it into production. Optimal Energy, a privately owned South African company based in Cape Town, plans to start selling their electric 'baby' Joule in 2010 for between R200 000 and R250 000, and while locally this is a wee bit pricey it should be seen as a precursor for future, more affordable vehicles with more of a mass market appeal.
While we naturally suspect that we will not have the electricity to recharge our newly purchased Joule, we must remember our electricity shortfall only happens during peak usage hours, so we can happily plug our car in overnight with the knowledge that we are not over-burdening the national electricity grid.

SAA TV Ad

They get so much wrong, but their advertising agency have managed to deliver a brilliant, entertaining ad, that will stop me from touching the fast forward button every time I see it. They have managed to capture the preconceptions (and a couple of truths) of the South African cities.

Dinner for one (Same as every year)

I don't see this classic on the local TV schedules so enjoy a bit of tradition, with Miss Sophie, Sir Toby, Admiral von Schneider, Mr Pommeroy, Mr Winterbottom and , of course,James.

Although the exact history of the play doesn't seem too clear what is certain is that the rights eventually belonged to Freddy Frinton and will always be most associated with him. It was first performed on German television and is still a massive hit there every year. Freddy Frinton was "the superlative stage drunk", fascinating as he was a confirmed teetotaler ... and played James! I colour version was scheduled to be shot in 1968 but Frinton had a heart attack just three weeks before filming was to begin.
